Your data

Privacy

ClimbingComp is an information site: no ads, no data resale, and an optional account. Here is what is measured, what we keep and how to object.

Last updated: 20 October 2026.

Audience measurement

We count visits and a few actions (adding to a calendar, clicking through to a registration, Instagram, switching language) to see what is useful and improve the site. Two tools do this: Vercel Web Analytics (page views, loading speed) and Umami (those actions).

Neither sets a cookie or follows you from one site to another. The statistics are anonymous and record nothing you type (searches, names, e-mails). Umami also honours your browser's Do Not Track signal. That is why no cookie banner is needed.

Opt out of measurement

You can ask not to be counted. Your choice is kept on this device, in this browser: it creates no data on our side, and you will need to repeat it if you clear the site's data.

What you send us

When you propose an event, you give your name, your e-mail and, if you wish, a message. They are used only to review the proposal and reply to you. They are saved with it and e-mailed to the team. You can ask for them to be deleted.

The "near me" feature sends your location to the server to work out distances, without the site recording it. To frame the map, your country is inferred from your IP address by our host and sent straight back to your browser without being kept.

Your account

An account is optional: the whole site works without one. If you create one, we keep your e-mail address, used to sign you in by link, and what you choose to add: a username, a profile picture, a city with its position. Also kept: the language of your e-mails, the country you signed up from (derived from your IP address by our host), when the account was created and when you last visited while signed in.

This information only serves to run your account: signing you in, showing your profile, suggesting events near you and writing to you in your language. The sign-up country, counted in totals, tells us which countries to open the site to next. Nothing is sold or used for advertising.

If you follow zones, we keep for each one the town picked, its position, the radius and the event types, along with the list of events already sent, so we never write to you twice about the same one. They serve the weekly digest only. Every e-mail has a link to unsubscribe without signing in, and you can pause or delete a zone from the My account page.

You can delete your account at any time from the My account page: everything is erased at once. An account left 3 years without signing in is deleted automatically. We warn you by e-mail 30 days before, and signing in is enough to keep it. An account asked for whose link was never clicked is erased after 7 days.

Cookies and storage

One cookie remembers the language you choose. If you sign in, session cookies keep you signed in, and one more, holding no information, tells the pages to show your account. Your browser also keeps, for the visit, the view you were on (map, agenda) for the Back button, and your opt-out if you made one. None of it is used to track you.

Service providers

The site relies on Vercel (hosting and visit measurement), Supabase (database, accounts and profile pictures, on servers in Ireland), Resend (sign-in and notification e-mails) and Umami (action measurement, on servers located in the European Union). The base map comes from OpenFreeMap: your browser contacts its servers directly, and they see your IP address.

Your rights

You can ask to access, correct or delete your information, or object to its use. Write to us by direct message on Instagram. You may also contact the CNIL, the French data protection authority.
